GLEN MULCAHY: COURSE INSTRUCTOR

Hello. I’m Glen Mulcahy, the innovation lead with RTÉ, Ireland’s national public broadcaster. I lead RTÉ’s mobile journalism project (“mojo”) and I founded RTÉ MojoCon Ireland - the first international mobile journalism conference.

I have trained more than 1,500 journalists in Europe, the Middle East and the United States, across television, radio, print and online. My specialities are Mobile Journalism, Video Journalism, DSLR Film Making and Photography. I am at the forefront of engaging with new technologies, and working up solutions for how such technologies can transform the way traditional media organisations work.

About the course

This course is designed to equip you with a hands on understanding of 360º content production. We will explore the technical aspects of content production, such as the devices, workflow, filming considerations and the editorial aspects such as ethics and empathy, experiential versus passive observation.

The course is divided into three sections:

Section 1 provides an overview of the course and introduces the course trainer and media experts.
Section 2 provides an overview of 360º content production.
Section 3 demonstrates how 360º content can be created.

You will be presented with practical exercise based on the concepts discussed in the course.

At the end of this course you will be able to:

    • Explain the different ways of accessing 360º video.
    • List different types of cameras available for capturing 360º video.
    • Film a 360º video and share it on social media.
Requirements:

To do the exercises, you will need a smart phone and a 360 camera such as the Insta 360.
