SUE LLEWELLYN - COURSE INSTRUCTOR

Hello. I’m Sue Llewellyn, your course instructor. I worked as journalist in the BBC TV newsroom for 15 years and now train journalists in Social Media. Here is my brief introduction to this course.

About the course

This course is designed to make you aware of Advanced Search techniques using Social Media that can be used to find the information you’re looking for.

The course is divided into four sections:

  • Section 1 provides an overview of the course and introduces the course trainer and media experts.
  • Section 2 explains the use of different Social Media platforms as sources for newsgathering.
  • Section 3 demonstrates how advanced search techniques in Google can be used for newsgathering.
  • Section 4 is the course summary.

Throughout each section, you will be presented with practical exercises based on the concepts discussed in the course.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to use Social Media to find sources, stories and to follow breaking news
  • You will also be able to research stories and find expert contributors using Social Media

You can complete this course within 4 hours over multiple sessions.

Participating experts:

Matt Cooke - Google News Labs

Anne-Marie Tomchak  - UK Editor, Mashable
